In order to be able to enjoy your floor for many years, it’s important that the concrete tiles are laid, finalised and maintained according to certain requirements. De Tegel bv’s advice is to use the Akemi and Kiesel brand. Lirhofin is also a good brand for treating and maintaining your concrete tiles. It is important though that you remain loyal to one brand; this applies for all treatment and maintenance products.

Important suggestions on laying and maintaining concrete tiles;

• ALWAYS GLUE TO A BONE-DRY SUBFLOOR
• NEVER USE ANTHRACITE COLOUR GROUT
• USE GLUES AND GROUTS SUITABLE FOR NATURAL STONE.De Tegel BV uses Kiesel products.
• CLEANSING CAN ONLY BE DONE SEVERAL DAYS AFTER GROUTING. TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THAT CONCRETE TILES ARE NOT VERY RESISTANT TO ACIDS LIKE VINEGAR, TEA, CHLORINE ETC. Remove such fluids immediately!
• STAY LOYAL TO ONE BRAND: AKEMI FOR TREATING AND MAINTAINING THE CONCRETE TILES. LITHOFIN also has suitable products for treating and aftercare of concrete tile floors; information can be obtained at De Tegel bv.
• UNTREATED FLOORS: In case you have not finished the floor job, always cover the floor with linen cloth and NEVER use plastic, panels or cardboard.
• UNDERFLOOR HEATING: Concrete tiles can easily be placed on top of floor heating. Make sure to use flexible glue and grout. Prevent great temperature fluctuations during laying and during the weeks after. Follow the general instructions for floor heating and no problems will occur.
• PLACING OUTSIDE: concrete tiles can be used in open patios and entrance halls. We discourage placement in direct sunlight because then the tiles may discolour.
• PUBLIC SPACES: In case of using concrete tiles in public spaces such as restaurants, offices, shops…we advise the maintenance of the floor by using a cleaning machine.
• SAWING: always use a water saw. The top layer of the concrete tile consists of marble and granite.
• SHOWER FLOOR: we strongly discourage using concrete tiles in a walk-in shower because of scale, which cannot be removed from concrete tiles.
