Terrazzo tiles are hydraulically pressed, whereas standard tiles are usually fired in kilns. This is an important difference, as the hydraulic pressing process creates a surface with genuine stone aggregates and warm colour nuances for which Italian craftsmanship is renowned worldwide.

During the production of Italian terrazzo tiles, marble and natural stone aggregates are permanently compressed into the material. With many other tile types, a similar pattern is merely printed onto the surface. This compression process is precisely what ensures that the distinctive appearance remains beautiful even after many years of use.
